We currently have one board opening. If you are interested in serving on the UCD board, be sure to plan on attending our board meeting. Our March board meeting will be on Tuesday, March 22nd at 5:30 pm. You can call the school office at (785) 232-0263 for more information.
March will be bringing in great weather and a ton of busy activities. We will be having a Parent Education/Literacy Awareness Night on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. There will be a taco bar for parents and pizza for children. Child care is provided by the UCD teachers. The event is free for currently enrolled UCD families and members of the UUMC. We will start the evening by having a parenting question and answer forum during our meal. This will allow parents to ask questions about child development, guidance and discipline, activities to do with your child at home or any other early childhood related question that you may want answers! After we eat, the parents will join their children in the classrooms for a fun literacy activity that is based off of Dr. Seuss books. March is Dr. Seuss' birthday month! We will also begin our reading challenge on the night of the event and it will continue through the month of March. Please RSVP for our parent education night by Tuesday, March 1st. WU will be having their SPRING BREAK on the week of March 14 - 18, 2016. UCD will still be in session during this week. We will be closed on March 25th for parent teacher conferences. Keep an eye on the parent folders for your scheduled conference time. Feel free to call the office if you have a time preference during that day. You should get your scheduled conference time by Friday, March 11th. This year UCD will be doing our Easter celebration a little different than in the past. We are joining UUMC in their Easter egg hunt. We will not do an Easter celebration during our normal school hours. Please plan on joining us for our Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 26th at 11 am. We will also be taking donations of pre-filled eggs the week before the egg hunt. We will send out more information as Easter gets closer! Last, but not least, as the weather begins to get better please remember that your children will be spending at least an hour outside each day. This means that we will need parents to bring in sunscreen, water bottles, jackets, appropriate playground shoes, and to check their child's extra clothes to make sure they are weather appropriate (and that they still fit!).

Each semester the employee's schedules change to accommodate classes, personal lives, and other activities of all teachers at UCD. For the Spring 2016 semester, I am posting the times that you should anticipate finding me at UCD. Please remember that these times may change due to meetings, trainings, appointments and life events. This is just an idea for parents to be aware of when you can call or meet with me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Monday and Wednesday: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Tuesday and Thursday: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm Friday: Times vary depending on staffing needs We are looking forward to a great Spring semester!! Thank you to all parents of UCD for your support and participation in our program. A new year is upon us and at UCD we have many goals this school year. We hope to do some improvements on our outdoor landscaping, our playground, and continue to improve our curriculum. As we move forward, we also are trying to use the blogging features more effectively. Be sure to check out your child's classroom blog. You will find useful reminders, school event dates, and a brief summary of the classroom activities/curriculum.
I am still looking for suggestions for the director's blog section. As a parent of UCD, if you have any questions about early childhood development, eating issues, discipline and guidance, early literacy, or any topic that you are curious about for your own parenting knowledge, please leave a comment and I will use that for my blog topic! Hope that all of the UCD families have an excellent year!! TODDLER: We will be going on a field trip to Meier's Pumpkin Paradise on Wednesday, October 14th. Cost is $5 per child. This will provide each child with a small pumpkin, a ride on the train, and fun on the giant slides. Parents are WELCOME to attend! Cost for an adult is $2 per activity. Please have your child to school no later than 9:30 AM, and please make sure they are wearing weather appropriate clothing (it get's chilly on these Fall mornings!) and tennis shoes, preferably a pair you do not mind will get muddy! Parent volunteers will be needed!!
PRESCHOOL: We will be going on a field trip to Meier's Pumpkin Paradise on Thursday, October 22nd. Cost is $5 per child. This will provide each child with a small pumpkin, a hayrack ride, and fun on the giant slides. KINDERGARTEN READINESS CLASS: The Kindergarten Readiness room is in need of a few pieces of furniture: mainly, two child-sized tables with chairs! We need one for both our art area and one for our kitchen area. Garage sales sometimes have sets in good condition! Or, if anyone is handy with tools, we would appreciate someone coming in to take a look at one of our current broken tables. I believe that the screws are stripped and need replaced, because it leans badly and was taken out of the room for fear it would collapse when a child put weight on it. If anyone can do anything for either of these needs, please see Ms. Joyce or Ms. Rachel! We will be heading over to Washburn Campus on Thursday, Oct 8th and Thursday, Oct 22 to participate in the Motor Development class' activities. Please be sure to send your child in active clothing, as well as socks and tennis shoes. We will also be going on a field trip to Meier's Pumpkin Paradise on Wednesday, October 21st. Cost is $5 per child. This will provide each child with a small pumpkin, a hayrack ride, and fun on the giant slides. We are planning on being in the Washburn Homecoming Parade this year! We will need plenty of volunteers to help assemble our float, as well as parents and children to dress up and ride on it on the big day! Please see Ms. CeCe or Ms. Rachel if you are interested Last but not least, we will be trick or treating on Washburn campus on Friday, October 30th. Please join us if you are available. We will leave UCD around 945 am. The younger classes will go to Morgan Hall at 10 am. The two older classes will take a longer trip. There are several buildings to visit. Trick or treating will take us approximately 2 hours!! Please contact the office if you are available to join in the Halloween fun! Each month I will do a blog post with developmental information for parents. This is a work in progress, so comments, ideas, and constructive criticism is helpful!! Monthly blog topics can be anything that interest our parents at UCD. I can post information on your child's development, behavior and guidance, activities to do with your child to enhance development at home, or more specific topics such as how to handle developing fears during the season of Halloween! Please leave me your comments and ideas and we will go from there! Thank you for everything that our UCD parents do to support the school, teachers and curriculum!
