My name is Rachel Johnson and I am the Lead Teacher in the Infant room, as well as UCD’s Assistant Director. Outside of school I have a wonderful husband, to whom I have been married for 16 years, and an ornery 3-year-old daughter named Aislynn. I love Superheroes, reading, scrapbooking, and camping. I travel often with my little family, especially in the summer time. I have been working with children for 15 years and have been a certified Preschool teacher for 8 of those years. I came to UCD in 2012 as the Kindergarten Readiness teacher and only recently switched classrooms due to my daughter’s coming of age. I attended Highland Community College and received my CDA (Child Development Associate Credential) in 2015. I am looking forward to this new adventure in the infant room! My work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, so you can always catch me if you have any questions! Everyday Ways to Support Your Baby’s Early Learning:
Language and Communication: Babies express their needs and feelings through sounds and cries, body movements, and facial expressions. Your baby will begin using words sometime around 1 year. By the time she is 3, she will be speaking in short (3-5 word) sentences. What You Can Do: - Watch and listen to see how your baby communicates what she is thinking and feeling. - Repeat the sounds and words your child uses and have back-and-forth conversations. - Read, sing, and tell stories. These are fun ways to help your child understand the meaning of new words and ideas. - Talk about what you do together - as you play, do errands, or visit friends and family.
