Happy Bear
Happy Bear will be visiting our classroom on Tuesday, March 22nd. Happy Bear is a presentation specifically written for preschoolers, kindergartners, and 1st/2nd graders. The Happy Bear Project (sponsored by Family Service and Guidance Center) is a child sexual abuse prevention program that teaches children about touching/being touched and how to recognize/protect themselves from sexual assault. The intent of the presentation is to teach children that:
- touching can be good, bad, or mixed-up (sexual assault)
- they have the right to protect their own bodies and to seek help when touching feels bad or mixed-up; and
- mixed-up touch can happen by someone you know, even a friend.
Parent Education Night
We will be having a Parent Education/Literacy Awareness Night on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. There will be a taco bar for parents and pizza for children. Child care is provided by the UCD teachers. The event is free for currently enrolled UCD families and members of the UUMC. We will start the evening by having a parenting question and answer forum during our meal. This will allow parents to ask questions about child development, guidance and discipline, activities to do with your child at home or any other early childhood related question that you may want answered! After we eat, the parents will join their children in the classrooms for a fun literacy activity that is based off of Dr. Seuss books. March is Dr. Seuss' birthday, after all! We will also begin our reading challenge on the night of the event and it will continue through the month of March. Please RSVP for our parent education night by Friday, February 26th.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
We will be CLOSED on March 25th for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please keep an eye on the parent folders for your scheduled conference time. Feel free to call the office if you have a time preference during that day. You should get your scheduled conference time by Friday, March 11th.
