University Child Development Teachers: Karla, Kaylie, Alicia, Rachel, Sammy, D’Mya Important Dates: Mar 1 Ms Kaylie’s Birthday Mar 10 Daylight Saving Time Begins Mar 14-15 CLOSED for Spring Break Mar 17 St. Patrick’s Day Mar 20 First Day of Spring Themes: 5 Senses St. Patrick’s Day Rainbows Spring The Details: That’s a BIG Hat! In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday (March 2) the UCD classrooms take part in a little competition throughout the month of March. We place the head of the Cat in the Hat (minus his hat) on the bulletin board in the hallway and invite parents to help us make his hat grow! How do you do that? By reading to your child at home! We will be sending slips of red and white paper home with each family to fill out every time a book is read. After the slips have been filled out, bring them back to school for us to hang on the hallway bulletin board! Spring Break: Washburn University’s Spring Break is the week of March 11-15. UCD will close only that Thursday and Friday.

What do we do all day? As children thrive on schedule and routine, we try to keep our routine the same each day. I’ve attached a copy of our daily schedule. “Centers” - We provide an activity on each carpet. We provide one dramatic play activity (something to pretend with) and one fine motor or block activity (something to build with). Generally within two minutes, these activities are scattered around the room, like a tornado has come through, but this is still good preparation for Preschool. “Art” - Each day we do some sort of art or sensory activity. We mostly do “process art” where the child is provided with an art medium and a tool to create. They are encouraged to do what they want with it, fostering creativity skills, with zero focus on the end product.
